An al fresco aperitif with your beloved at sunset. A feast of fine seafood. The gentle whisper of the soft sea breeze as it dances through towering palms. A splash in cerulean seas. And a barefoot adventure across the softest white sands. Cyprus’ cosmopolitan resort of Ayia Napa is all this and more. Blessed with some of the best beaches in Europe, the seaside resort is famed the world over as one of the most beautiful destinations in the Med for an idyllic seaside break. But for those in the know, Ayia Napa is far more than just a sizzling summer holiday hot spot. In fact, the fabulous spring season is one of the best times of the year to enjoy everything that this dreamy destination has to offer.
The Cyprus weather is notoriously fine in the spring – warm during the day and refreshingly cool in the evening – and the beaches are blissfully quiet. What’s more, it’s the perfect time of the year to discover everything that makes Ayia Napa so special beyond the seashore. Whether you love to explore areas of outstanding natural beauty, or yearn to head further afield for a truly authentic taste of local life, now is the time to dig beneath the surface for a meaningful holiday filled with novel experiences.
If you’ve ever seen pictures of the Ayia Napa coastline in guidebooks and tourism websites, chances are, these photos were taken during the spring. And for good reason. The waters are clean and clear, and the holiday-hungry crowds haven’t yet taken over the sandy shores. So if you do have the chance to visit the island for the ultimate spring break, be sure to head straight to the award-winning Nissi Beach: a stunning 600-metre stretch of pristine coastline.
Dip your toes in the turquoise seas, claim any sunbed and umbrella your heart desires, and relax to the soft rush of the waves caressing the shore. The equally stunning Makronissos Beach also deserves a place on your bucket list. And it even boasts a romantic little cove on one end for moments of totally uninterrupted beachside bliss.
Officially opening for the spring-summer season on April 5th, Water World Waterpark is the place to be for some adrenaline-fuelled fun under the sun. One of Ayia Napa’s star attractions, there are plenty of rides and attractions for adults to enjoy at this award-winning destination.
Thrilling rides are bound to add a dose of excitement to your holiday and if you’re daring at heart, you may like to push your limits down the steep hair-raising ‘Fall of Icarus’ slide. Prefer to just take it easy? Escape from it all down the lazy river ‘Odyssey’. Or kick back for a drink and snack in a shady spot as you watch the action unfold around you.
If you’re a fan of outdoor pursuits, then Ayia Napa’s rugged and rocky national park is bound to make your heart sing in the spring. Famed for its dramatic cliffs that drop down to the sea, it’s also blessed with spectacular views as far as the eye can see. The ideal place to soak up the splendour of Cyprus’ natural world.
Come spring, the scent of local herbs is intoxicating. And the weather is just right for a stroll, hike, or cycle through the area’s nature trails. There are also plenty of benches dotted around the park for moments of respite and relaxation. While enjoying a fine day out, be sure to find out more about the natural wealth of the area at the Cape Greco Environmental Information and Education Centre. The tiny whitewashed church of Agioi Anargyri is also pretty as a picture, perched atop a vertical cliff.
In March and April, the Cyprus landscape is more vibrant than ever, blanketed in verdant green and speckled with wildflowers under a canopy of bright blue skies. And unbeknown to many, the rural areas outside Ayia Napa are home to lovely villages where the living is easy.
Visit the fishing village of Liopetri just 16 km outside Ayia Napa centre, and enjoy a stroll by the Liopetri River banks, lined with rickety fishing boats. Be sure to also sit down for a feast at either of the two fish restaurants in the vicinity. Ask for the fresh catch of the day with a fresh village salad and voila: the real flavours of Cyprus on your table!
You can also make the most of authentic island life in the sleepy village of Avgorou, just over 20km from Ayia Napa centre. Visit the village’s fascinating ethnographic museum and spend a few hours familiarising yourselves with the daily life of previous generations.
Located at the edge of Ayia Napa’s central hub, the Sculpture Park is the perfect place to take the most Instagrammable photos. Stretching across 20,000 square metres, this outdoor oasis is packed with wonderful sculptures by local and international artists. All of varying proportions and heights, the brilliant blue backdrop and panoramic views add to the park’s appeal. And that’s not to forget the cute cacti and succulents punctuating the pretty surroundings. Take a close look and get better acquainted with some of the island’s most beautiful varieties.
In the heart of Ayia Napa, a fine couples-only getaway awaits. A paradise of romance and relaxation, the five-star Amanti caters to your every need in an environment where luxury combines with casual beachside vibes. Renowned as one of the best Ayia Napa hotels, and part of the island’s leading Kanika Hotels & Resorts, this sophisticated sanctuary provides custom-designed services and experiences to make every romantic stay one that you will treasure for years to come.
What’s more, the hotel’s prime location in the centre of the seaside resort allows for plenty of exploring during the spring season. The best beaches in the area are just a few minutes’ walk or drive away, while the Ayia Napa waterpark, the Cape Greco National Park, and neighbouring rural villages are all within easy reach. A holiday immersed in style, surrounded by the very best of local Cyprus culture.
