April 22nd … is not just another single day … April 22nd is an Annual Event with a history of 46 years.
April 22nd 2016 is the 46th Celebration of Earth Day, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate and support the movement for Environmental Protection.
It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year. In 1970, the year of the first Earth Day, the movement gave voice to an emerging consciousness, channeling human energy towards environmental issues. 46 years later, more than 193 communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues.

Today; April 22nd, 2016 we are entering the 46th year of this movement.
What our Team does at Elias Beach Hotel …
As a symbolic action in our hotel, we have decided to support this movement, by bringing AWARENESS about our ENVIRONMENTAL and SUSTAINABILITY efforts and actions and how WE CARE FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT, through information in a number of our hotel areas, especially beside the lifts, within the rooms themselves and through a board near our indoor Kids Club.
One of our main initiatives, which we are very delighted to present to you, with today’s occasion of Earth Day, is our Environmental Corner, on our lower Hotel Lobby area, near our Kids Club.
Together with the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CY.CE.RE) we have agreed to begin a cooperation on an annual basis, and bring awareness towards various activities for our island; Cyprus and its environmental aspects.
Following this initiative, we have proceeded to the following actions:
Creation of an Environmental Board
During this action, we have created an Environmental Green Board, with the name: “We care for our Environment”, where we have placed a lot of useful scientific information and details for the major environmental aspects related to our island; Cyprus, that would be of interest to our guests, visitors and team members.
Among these, we included the following information:
– The Flora of Cyprus
– The Fauna of Cyprus
– General information for the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research & Education (CY.CE.RE) – see more for CY.CE.RE history and activities in the following link: http://kykpee.org/?lang=en.
– Wetlands of Cyprus
– Beaches of Cyprus – Blue Flags
– The Forests of Cyprus
– Herbs of Cyprus
– Hotel’s Garden Plants
Scientific identification and recognition of 20 main plants of our hotel gardens, from the Scientific/Research Team of CY.CE.RE.
During the above action, we walked along our hotel gardens with our gardeners and members of CY.CE.RE, took photographs of our 20 main plants, and then proceeded with their presentation on our Environmental Board, with their name and a brief explanation of their origin.
Bronze Metal – We Protect the Environment 2015-2016
We were awarded with the above metal from CY.CE.RE, as protectors of the environment for the year 2015-2016.
