Alzheimer’s disease, the sometimes not-so-slow loss of memory and grip on reality, is a distressing challenge that affects not just the elderly. Which is why the Kanika Group established the Ithaki charity: to offer help to sufferers, their families and friends and create greater understanding among the general population.
At Ithaki we have already opened day-care facilities for Alzheimer’s patients in Cyprus. Meanwhile, experts working with us conduct seminars on all aspects of Alzheimer’s, and we are conducting a series of sessions to help families and individuals assess the onset and extent of any short-term memory loss.
Ithaki would like to thank all those who attended the Mini Mental Test which took place in May at the Grammar School in Limassol: it was a great success. We thank all those who supported the event; the sponsors, the doctors, the psychologists, the volunteers and the people who attended and participated on that day.
We regularly organise fundraising events (from Bingo nights to fashion shows) and – through our Facebook page – also ask for help in instances where Alzheimer’s sufferers go missing from home.
If you would like to support our work, there are collection boxes in the reception areas of all our hotels. Alternatively you can contact us at www.ithakicyprus.com
