From ancient times, Pafos has always been the epicentre of Cypriot culture when theatre, music, art and literature featured in the daily lives of the Paphians. Many of these delights survive today with theatre at Kourion, mosaics at the Archaeological Park and fresco paintings in the beautiful churches.
Inspired by this historical precedent, the city is presently experiencing a surge of cultural activities, where locals and visitors alike enjoy international performances and music of the highest calibre with the annual Opera and the Kypria Festival amongst others. Now Pafos looks to the future to build on and celebrate its past by taking its place on the world stage as European Capital of Culture 2017.
