Located in picturesque Protaras, just a short drive from the popular seaside resort of Ayia Napa, this seaside stunner combines white sands and turquoise waters. Hands down one of the most well-known beaches in Cyprus, it’s also often awarded as one of the best in Europe and beyond. Remember that Fig Tree Bay is exceptionally popular, and gets very busy during the summer months, so head here early in the morning to secure a sunbed and umbrella. Come lunchtime, there are plenty of restaurants, cafés, and beach bars nearby to grab a bite to eat and refreshing frappe (iced coffee) or cocktail.
Another east coast beauty, Nissi Beach is where the action is on the island’s east coast. Undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Cyprus, it’s unsurprisingly often rated as one of the most beautiful in the world, famed for its fine powdery white sands, translucent turquoise waters, and Caribbean-esque vibe. Come summer, this stretch is incredibly fun and vibrant, attracting holidaymakers from around the world looking to spend the day in a dreamy setting. Taking its name from the small island (‘nissi’) just off the coast, the waters here are notoriously calm and sheltered from the winds. So spend a lazy day soaking up the sunshine on a sunbed or check out the area’s water sports facilities and beach bars for a fun-packed day.
If you plan on exploring the island’s more rugged west coast, the lovely Coral Bay deserves a place on your bucket list. Hands down the most stunning sandy beach in Paphos (Pafos), this Blue Flag beauty boasts deep golden sands and clean waters. As you approach the bay, take a moment to enjoy the painterly scenery from above. You’ll notice that the beach is enclosed by rugged limestone headlands and backed vibrant greenery. Down on the beach, you can easily spend the whole day by the water’s edge, with plenty of facilities and amenities at hand.
About a 30-minute drive from Coral Bay, the lovely Lara Beach beckons. Hidden within the natural splendour of the Akamas peninsula, head here for day immersed in nature with nothing but the sound of the waves for company. The remote beach has no sunbeds or amenities, so be sure to take everything you need with you. Given the remote location of Lara Beach, you will need a 4×4 to access it, or you can head out on organised safari. But it’s well worth the effort if you have plenty of time to spare as you explore the best beaches in Cyprus.
Back on the island’s east coast, the picture-perfect Konnos Bay is what summer holiday dreams are made of. Located just a short drive outside the Ayia Napa hub, this stunning pocket of paradise is cocooned by pines and nestled between two cliffs. The calm and clear waters here are perfect for a long swim, snorkelling, or water sports. There are also plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, although they tend to get snatched up early during the high season. And when you want to peel yourselves away from your sunbed, head up to the gorgeous little café for an icy frappe with breathtakingly beautiful panoramic views.
No beachy holiday in Cyprus is complete without visiting the 350-metre Makronissos stretch, where crystal clear waters lap against fine white sands. Offering something for everyone, make a splash on the busy main strip or head around to the little cove on the far end of the beach for a quieter day by the water’s edge. And just around the cove, the Makronissos Tombs – dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods – call out to history lovers.
Keen to discover some of the best beaches in Cyprus with your other half? The island’s east coast is the perfect base for exploring some of the finest beauties on the island. For a romantic getaway to remember, the 5-star Amanti hotel in the heart of Ayia Napa offers the most luxurious holiday experience in a tranquil and purpose-designed retreat for couples only. Offering a quiet escape in a central location, all beaches in Ayia Napa and Protaras are just a short drive away. The hotel is also within walking distance from the sandy Pantachou beach and the area’s many restaurants and bars.
