Your Definitive Summer Holiday Packing List: What not to Forget!

Packing before your holidays is often exciting, but it can sometimes be a slightly stressful affair! What to make sure goes into your suitcase for your Cyprus break? And what to leave out? We at Kanika Hotels & Resorts  are here to guide you through your sizzling summer holiday packing list.

1. Sunscreen

If you’re travelling to Cyprus for your summer holidays from a country with a cooler climate, you’ll no doubt want to stretch out onto the sunbed by the glistening poolside the moment you arrive on the hotel grounds. But be warned, the sun’s glare is very strong throughout the summer, and you should wear adequate broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays. Look for an SPF 30 or higher; it will help prevent skin cancer, premature ageing and sunspots. Most importantly, you don’t want to burn. You may want to show off your lovely glowing holiday tan but building it up gradually is key.

2. Wide brimmed hat

It goes without saying that just slapping on the sunscreen isn’t enough. Because if you sit out in the sun, you’ll also want to be sure to prevent sunstroke. Ladies can invest in a stylish wide-brimmed hat, while the gentlemen can look cool under blue skies with a cowboy hat or straw trilby. Just choose something that adds a funky flair to your holiday wardrobe!

3. Trusty sunnies

The last thing you want to be doing throughout your holiday is squinting! So before you head off on your trip, be sure to invest in a good pair of sunglasses. In order to minimise glare, polarised lenses are best, reducing reflections, improving contrast, and visual clarity. Always look for a labelled good quality lens and for sunglasses that meet the European safety standards. And once you’ve checked the practicalities, be as daring as you like with the style you go for, whether you’re a fan of trendy oversized aviators or square wayfarers.

4. Comfy open shoes

Forget about socks in Cyprus, all you need is a pair of comfy open sandals, as well as a pair of flipflops for walks by the beach and splashing poolside fun. If you do plan on heading out on day trips to explore the stunning natural beauty of the island, then invest in a sturdy pair of hiking sandals – they may not look super trendy, but your feet will thank you once you head out for a walk-through roads less travelled.

5. Chic scarf or shawl

Summer holidays in Cyprus are bound to be hot, but saying that, evenings by the sea can be breezy, and it’s a great idea to pack a light scarf or shawl to just throw over your shoulders, should the need arise. What’s more, a colourful scarf doubles up as a great headpiece, especially when you want to hide the summer frizz!
